New televisions are set by the manufacturer to catch the attention of customers in a retail store's showroom environment. The pictures may look impressive at the store, but many customers end up with buyer's remorse when the picture on their expensive new television is not as impressive in their home as it was in the store. Some adventurous consumers may attempt to adjust the settings on their new televisions themselves, only to discover that the results are not what they wished for. Many new televisions have adjustments that go far beyond the old standard sharpness, hue, tint, contrast, and brightness adjustments. Advanced adjustments, such as gamma and white balance, require expensive equipment and specialized training.
